Interior
The 2017 Journey comes with plenty of storage space in the cabin. Not only are there a pair of insulated compartments below the second-row seats that are perfect for snacks, even the front passenger seat flips up to let you access an extra storage space. You also get plenty of room for cargo, with up to 67.6 cubic feet available when you fold down the back row. The Journey also has plenty of luxury features like heated leather seats, three-zone automatic climate control, and a Rear Seat Video Group perfect for entertaining kids on long trips.
Engine (Power)
For most trims, the 2017 Journey comes with a 2.4-liter I4 engine that pulls down 173 horsepower with 166 pound-feet of torque. You also get a four-speed automatic transmission, a massive gas tank, and 25 highway mpg, giving the Journey an EPA-estimated range of 500 miles. The second engine is available on most trims except the SE and standard on the GT, and it's a 3.6-liter V6 with 283 horsepower and 260 pound-feet. Thanks to its modern design and a six-speed transmission, this second engine also offers 25 highway mpg, and it can tow up to 2,500 pounds.
Performance
With a four-wheel independent suspension designed for comfort, the 2017 Dodge Journey offers the smooth ride most families prefer. However, if you want a Journey with more bumps in the road and a better response, you should choose one of the higher trim levels that come with touring and performance suspensions. At the same time, an option on every trim level is all-wheel drive, which offers better bad-weather handling in exchange for fewer mpg.
Safety Features
As you might expect from a family vehicle like the 2017 Dodge Journey, you get a lot of standard safety features like four-wheel disc brakes with electronic brake force distribution, brake assist, and seven airbags. If you get the right trim, you'll also get a ParkView Rear Back-up Camera and the ParkSense Rear Park Assist System. This system uses ultrasonic sensors to warn you about obstacles.
Trims Levels (Exterior)
The 2017 Dodge Journey has five trim levels: the SE, SXT, Crossroad, Crossroad Plus, and GT. The SE is the economy option, but you get features like a 4.3-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system and heated side mirrors. The SXT is the next step up, and it comes with LED tail lights and is the first trim with an available third row. Then there's the 19-inch wheels and the complimentary year's subscription to SiriusXM Radio that come with the Crossroad. Past that is the Crossroad Plus and its 8.4-inch touchscreen and leather seats. Finally, the GT offers performance upgrades like a better suspension, a V6 engine, and an engine oil cooler.
