2018 Ram 1500 vs 2018 Chevrolet Silverado near Washington, DC

2018 brings in a lot of optimal pickup truck choices. The cream of the crop; however, is the Ram 1500 and the Chevrolet Silverado. In this model year, the 1500 has made a point to focus on their safety features and to bring all of their technology completely up to date with the latest features. The 1500 has also made the top of the list for being the most-fuel efficient full-size pickup in America as well. The Silverado steps up to the plate in 2018 with its own investment in upgrades. The Silverado has brought in a mild-hybrid eAssist package in hopes of bringing its fuel economy up from its previous years that had fallen short.

2018 Ram 1500 Power & Handling

Three engines are available to the Ram 1500. The base engine is a 3.6-liter Pentastar. This engine is paired with variable valve timing. The second engine works to improve its fuel efficiency by being paired with both variable valve timing and fuel saver technology. This 5.7-liter Hemi V8 is standard for the top two trims, but can be optional for the others. The only trim that comes with a single engine choice is the HFE. This trim is actually named for its incredible fuel efficiency with its 3-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine. The fuel economy average is estimated by the EPA to be 29 miles per gallon!

2018 Chevrolet Silverado Power & Handling

The Silverado comes with three engine choices. The first engine, the 4.3-liter V6, is standard across the trim levels. The next two engines can be added as options; 5.3-liter V8 or 6.2-liter V8. Each of these engines has the choice to be paired with a six-speed automatic transmission or an eight-speed automatic transmission. The top fuel economy average is estimated by the EPA to be 21 miles per gallon. This estimation is made with the mild-hybrid eAssist package included.

2018 Ram 1500 Features & Design

Safety is incredibly important, so in 2018, the Ram 1500 has increased the overall length of its rear window and brought in many more driving aids. With the extended window, blind spots are now even smaller. On top of this, the 1500 has helped to make many safety features more accessible. Some of these new standard features would include LED foglights, an SOS call and roadside assistance, a backup camera, automatic high beams, and even a locking tailgate.

2018 Chevrolet Silverado Features & Design

Safety and security haven't seen too much improvement on the Silverado. Many of them are hidden away in the upper trims or need to be added through additional packages. One of these packages would be the Enhanced Driver Alert package which can add features like a lane keep assist, a lane departure warning, and parking assistance for both front and rear parking.

Conclusions

When you look at the fuel efficiency, power, and safety of the two pickups, overall the Ram 1500 comes out on top. The Chevrolet Silverado simply can't hold a candle to the standard offerings of the 1500 and it also lacks a bit of luster on the fuel efficiency as well.
