ENGINE (POWER)
Depending on the trim, the 2017 Charger comes with one of four engines. The SE and SXT use a 3.6-liter V6 that gets 292 horsepower with 260 pound-feet of torque. The R/T and Daytona have a 5.7-liter HEMI engine that offers 370 horsepower and 395 pound-feet of torque. The next three get a 6.4-liter V8 HEMI that can pump out 485 horsepower and 475 pound-feet, but the top SRT Hellcat trim gets the engine of the same name, a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that gives you 707 horsepower with 650 pound-feet. Thanks to all that power, the Hellcat also switches out the speedometer with a version that goes up to 200 mph.
INTERIOR
The 2017 Charger is a muscle car, but it's a muscle car with class. That's why the interior features include a standard 8.4-inch infotainment system with the latest version of Chrysler Group's Uconnect, a seven-inch color display in the instrument cluster you can customize to show different information, and a push-button engine start. Comfort features include leather seats, heating in the front and back with ventilation for the front seats, and dual-zone automatic climate control.
PERFORMANCE
Higher trim levels of the 2017 Dodge Charger don't just add interior features, they also add better performance parts. Along with bigger and more powerful engines, available mechanical upgrades include a sport mode switch and a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters for manual control. Some trims offer all-wheel drive for better traction and a Bilstein adaptive damping suspension. That last feature lets you adjust how the suspension behaves with settings like Sport and Track. Even the brakes have additions like a self-drying feature that uses a little friction to boil off rain water.
TRIM LEVELS (EXTERIOR)
You have plenty of options when it comes to 2017 Dodge Charger trim levels. There are eight in total: SE, SXT, R/T, Daytona, R/T Scat Pack, Daytona 392, SRT 392, and SRT Hellcat. Even the less expensive trims come with top-level features like an 8.4-inch touch screen, LED tail lights, and Bluetooth-enabled calls and streaming audio, but with higher trims you get both better features and a better performance. At the top end, you can expect Brembo brakes, upgraded suspensions, V8 engines, and more drive modes than the SE offers.
SAFETY FEATURES
When you buy a 2017 Dodge Charger, you get standard safety features that include active headrests, seven air bags, All-Speed Traction Control, and a hill start assist that keeps the brake on for a second so you can switch to the accelerator without moving backward. The Charger also has several available features like the LaneSense Lane Departure Alert, ParkSense sensors, rear cross path detection, and automatic high beams that turn off when they detect an oncoming vehicle.
