In 2010, Dodge's line of Ram pickup trucks became its own brand within the Chrysler Group. Ram trucks themselves go back for decades before then, and they come in several different sizes. The 1500 is a light-duty pickup, the 2500 and 3500 come with available features for heavy-duty work, and the 4500 and 5500 are chassis cabs made for industrial jobs. Which one you need depends on what you need to do.

ENGINE (POWER)
The 2017 Ram 1500 starts with a 3.6-liter V6 that gets 305 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque. You can also get the class-exclusive 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine, which comes with 240 horsepower and 420 pound-feet. The third engine is a 5.7-liter HEMI V8, and it delivers 395 horsepower and 410 pound-feet. This is the first engine for the 2500, which offers its own upgrade of a 6.4-liter HEMI that manages 410 horsepower and 429 pound-feet (standard on the 3500). Then there's the diesel engine, a 6.7-liter inline-six that pumps out 370 horsepower and 800 pound-feet of torque or 385 and 900 in the 3500.
PERFORMANCE
The 2017 Ram trucks deliver different performances depending on the model. With the best configurations, the 1500 can carry 1,900 pounds in the bed or tow up to 10,640 pounds. Thanks to available features like dual rear tires and a gooseneck hitch, the 2500 has a payload max of 3,990 pounds and a towing power of 17,980 pounds. With extra size and strength, the 3500 can manage a 7,390-pound payload or a diesel towing strength of 31,210 pounds.
INTERIOR
Even big vehicles like Ram trucks can have comfortable interiors. Thanks to all the trim levels, you can find interiors with real leather seats, an 8.4-inch touch-screen infotainment system with Uconnect, and dual-zone automatic climate control. Models with back seats also get a bench that folds up and lets you reach storage bins right under the seats.
TRIM LEVELS (EXTERIOR)
Each 2017 Ram truck offers plenty of customization options no matter what size it is. The 1500 has nine trim levels to pick: Big Horn, Tradesman, 1500 Express, Lone Star, Sport, Laramie, Rebel Laramie, Longhorn, and Limited. The 2500 comes as a Tradesman, SLT, Lone Star, Outdoorsman, Big Horn Laramie, Power Wagon, Laramie Longhorn, Power Wagon Laramie, and Limited, while the 3500 has Tradesman, SLT, Lone Star, Big Horn, Laramie, Laramie Longhorn, and Limited trims. The 1500 has Regular, Quad, and Crew Cabs, but the 2500 and 3500 have Regular, Crew, and Mega Cabs. All three come with 2x4 or 4x4 drivetrains, three possible bed lengths, and three engine options.
SAFETY FEATURES
Each size of 2017 Ram pickup truck has its own safety record, but you can count on safety features like electronic stability control and a set of six air bags. If you get a model with a touchscreen, you can also use the ParkView Rear Back-up Camera. Some models offer accessories like roadside emergency kits, but another Ram option is the ParkSense Rear Park Assist System, which warns you if you're about to back into something.
