A Ram oil change is the most basic job your truck needs, and it is also the one people put off most. If your dash says "Oil Change Due," this guide is for you. We will cover how often a Ram really needs fresh oil, what it costs at Waldorf Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, and the Mopar specials running this fall. If you drive in from La Plata, St. Charles, Brandywine or Clinton, the same advice applies.
Want the basics on what an oil change includes at our shop? Our oil change service page covers that. This post focuses on Ram trucks: intervals, cost and timing.
How often does a Ram need an oil change?
Your Ram tells you. Newer Ram trucks use an oil change indicator, often called the oil life monitor. It watches how you drive and puts "Oil Change Due" on the dash when it is time. For the 2026 Ram 1500, Kelley Blue Book says that alert may come as soon as about 4,000 miles or as late as 10,000 miles. Either way, change the oil and filter no later than 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. KBB lists the same guidance on its 2026 Ram 2500 page.
That range is wide on purpose. The monitor will call for service sooner if you:
- Make lots of short trips
- Tow a trailer
- Use E85 fuel
- Drive in very hot or very cold weather

Mopar parts and your warranty

It also says using an aftermarket part does not, by itself, void your warranty. So why choose a Mopar oil change? Our technicians work on Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep and Ram vehicles every day. We use genuine Mopar filters made for your engine. We reset your monitor and keep a record of the visit, which helps if you ever need warranty work. Whoever does your oil change, keep every receipt. The FTC recommends it.

Never go past 10,000 miles or 12 months, whichever comes first. Can I reset the oil life monitor myself? Yes, the steps are in your owner's manual. If we do your oil change, we reset it for you. Only reset it after the oil and filter are actually changed.
